Lower back pain can be caused by problems with the spinal muscles, nerves, bones, tendons and ligaments. When you have lower back pain you may feel like resting, but moving could be very beneficial to your back and to ease the pain. Appropriate and slow exercises for lower back pain can strengthen your back, stomach, hip flexors and glutes. The stronger your core is, the more protection for your back. Always ask your doctor before doing any exercise for back pain. Depending on the cause and intensity of your pain, some exercises may not be recommended. I always say: “Listen to your body” and NEVER do anything that does not feel good to you.
The following video is to help you release lower back pain and sciatica pain by strengthening your core, softly stretching your hamstrings, hip flexors and the glutes. You will hear me say “engage your core”, meaning to activate your core muscles as you follow the moves; and lastly remember to breathe into each stretch. These exercises should be somewhat challenging yet they should feel wonderful to your body.
